Rohit Sharma missed by just this many runs, breaking AB de Villiers’ record

New Delhi: Captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed after scoring just 17 runs in 21 balls in the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens on Thursday. He hit two fours and a six. Captain Rohit was shown the way to the pavilion by Chamika Karunaratne caught by Kusal Mendis. Rohit had a chance to beat South African legend AB de Villiers in this match, he had to score only 41 runs for this. Although he played an innings of 17 runs, after which he missed just 24 runs from breaking this record. Had the captain scored 24 more runs, he would have left AB de Villiers behind. It is expected that he will destroy this record in the third ODI.

Record is registered in the name of Sachin Tendulkar

At present, Rohit Sharma is the 18th batsman in the world in terms of scoring the most runs in ODIs. Rohit has scored 9554 runs in 230 innings of 237 matches, while de Villiers has 9577 runs in his name. Talking about the batsmen who have scored the most runs in ODIs, the name of Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar is on top. Sachin had scored 18426 runs in 452 innings of 463 matches in his ODI career. There are 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries in this.

No batsman has been able to break Sachin’s record till now. In second place is Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara. Who scored 14234 runs in 380 innings of 404 matches. Australian legend Ricky Ponting has 13704 runs in 375 matches. This is followed by the name of Sri Lankan veteran Sanath Jayasuriya. Fourth place holder Jayasuriya had scored 13430 runs in 445 matches. The fifth-ranked batsman is Mahela Jayawardene, who scored 12650 runs in 448 matches. Active batsman Virat Kohli occupies the sixth position with 12584 runs.

Fourth batsman in the world in terms of hitting sixes

Rohit has 29 centuries and 47 half-centuries in ODIs. He is the fourth batsman in the world to hit most sixes in ODIs. Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has hit the most sixes in ODIs. Shahid had hit 351 sixes in his career. Windies veteran Chris Gayle’s name is recorded in second place. Gayle has hit 331 sixes. Whereas Sanath Jayasuriya has hit 270 sixes and Rohit Sharma has hit 260 sixes. Rohit has to hit 11 more sixes to overtake Jayasuriya.
