Pakistan’s batsman became a third year student at the age of 37, did wonders like Rishabh Pant in Gaba

New Delhi: The former Pakistan cricketer wants to complete his studies after earning a name for himself in the world of sports. This is the reason that recently former cricketer Mohammad Hafeez took admission in Karachi University to continue his education. A few days after Hafeez, Pakistani batsman Asad Shafiq has also become a student. Asad, 37, has said that he is taking admission in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Sports Sciences (HPESS) at the University of Karachi.

Shafiq will be a student of BS third year

According to an official statement issued by KU, Shafiq will be a third year BS student in the evening shift. On Monday, the cricketer met HPES President Prof Dr Basit Ansari and KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood Iraqi at the VC Secretariat. During this meeting, Shafiq told the Chairman and the Vice-Chancellor that after getting selected in the national team, he was forced to leave his studies midway.

However, he said that now the time has come to complete the studies. He is hopeful that other cricketers will also resume their education in the near future. The KU VC replied that Shafiq’s admission is a good sign. Not only the students of the department but others will also learn from his experience. I am sure it will be a pleasant surprise for his classmates to see Shafiq in the classroom.

Who is Asad Shafiq?

Asad Shafiq, who played 77 Tests, 60 ODIs and 10 T20 Internationals for Pakistan, has been a middle order batsman. His international career lasted between 2010-2020. Shafiq has so far scored 12 Test centuries in his entire career and has scored nine centuries batting at number six. This is a world record. The batsman’s achievement was surpassed by Sir Garfield Sobers, who had previously held the record for West Indies by scoring eight centuries. Other cricketers studying at KU include former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, Mohammad Hafeez and Test cricketer Saud Shakeel, who took admission only last week.

Asad Shafiq is known for his brilliant batting in the Gabba Test (Dec 2016). Although Australia won the match, Asad was awarded man of the match for his heroic performance. Asad scored a brilliant century while batting at number six. He scored a total of 137 runs in 207 balls, which included 13 fours and a six. After this, in the Gaba Test 2021, Rishabh Pant gave victory to Team India by batting brilliantly.
