New Delhi: Pakistan’s experienced fast bowler Wahab Riaz has been away from international cricket for almost two years. These days Wahab is seen blowing stumps with his stormy bowling in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL20). Meanwhile, Wahab has created a stir in Pakistan cricket by making a big statement. This veteran cricketer says that when Mohammad Wasim was the chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), there was a lot of favoritism. Rameez Raja was the PCB chairman during that time.
Wasim, the chief selector of laptops, made a poor choice
Wahab’s anger erupted at the sidelining of senior cricketers despite his performances. He sarcastically said- “Wasim, the chief selector of Laptop, made a poor selection. He had no justification for not selecting.” Players like Imad Wasim, Shoaib Malik and Sarfaraz Ahmed were ignored. “Shoaib and Imad did well in T20 World Cup 2021. Wahab raised the question – why his performance did not appear on his laptop? Why was he ignored for the T20 World Cup 2022 to be held in Australia? What was his fault?
The chief selector should have communicated with us
The 37 year old cricketer made a big statement in an interview with Geosuper.tv. When Wahab was asked whether he had ever discussed the issue with the former PCB chairman, he said he had not. Wahab said- “I know that Rameez Bhai was the highest authority. The chief selector should have communicated with us, but in our culture you only communicate with those who agree with you. You don’t communicate with people who know how to defend their stand.” Wahab was dropped from the team after taking five wickets in two ODIs and four wickets in three T20Is played in 2020, when Ehsan Mani was the PCB chairman and Wasim Khan was the CEO.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli’s good performance after 30+
The veteran fast bowler said, “There should be a limit to favoritism. It is not right to sideline players by saying they are too old. If age is important, then the rules should be the same for all.” “Take the example of Misbah bhai, who performed for Pakistan at the age of 40+. I think the peak of any cricketer starts after the age of 30. There are many other examples as well. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis are all 30+ but performing for their teams. In my opinion age should not be a criteria. If a senior player is eligible to play for the team, he should be selected regardless of age.”
Second fast bowler to take 400 wickets in T20 history
Wahab is eyeing a return to the national team after his recent form in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023. Wahab, who recently joined the 400 club by taking 400 T20 wickets during this year’s BPL, said, “I have had my ups and downs in my career, but I always try to believe in my hard work and skills. ” Wahab became the second fast bowler in T20 history to take 400 wickets. The first fast bowler was Dwayne Bravo of the West Indies.
