New Delhi: Team India will play a four-match Test series against Australia from February 9 after the series against New Zealand. Ishaan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav have also been included for the Test series. Meanwhile, former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has welcomed the BCCI’s decision to include Ishan-Surya’s name for the Border-Gavaskar series. The new Chetan Sharma-led selection committee has included Suryakumar in the red-ball squad after his impressive batting in the limited-overs format, while wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan got his maiden Test call-up in the absence of Rishabh Pant.
When a player is in form, it is not right to keep him on the bench.
Azhar feels that an in-form batsman like Suryakumar can play in all the three formats of the game. The former Indian captain pointed out that Suryakumar has done exceptionally well with the bat in the domestic arena as well. He said- When the player is in form, it is not right to keep him on the bench. Suryakumar Yadav has the ability to play for the Indian team in all three formats. He has also done well in his last Ranji match. As much as I have seen Suryakumar’s batting, I can say that like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, he too can play in all three formats. After a long time India has got a batsman who can play in all formats.
Suryakumar and Kishan have to prove themselves
Although Azhar still believes that Suryakumar and Kishan will have to prove themselves. The former Indian captain said, ‘It is very difficult to make a place in the team and if these two players get a place in the team then they will have to prove themselves.’ Australia will play four Test matches against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The first match of the series will be played on February 9 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Premier batsman Suryakumar has played 17 ODIs and 45 T20Is for India, although the middle-order batsman is yet to make his Test debut.
