Goddess Kali Poster Row Film Maker Leena Manimekalai Moves Supreme Court For Quashing Of All Fir Against Her

Filmmaker Leena Manimekalai has filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding the ‘Kaali’ poster controversy. Leena has sought protection in several cases registered against her. Actually, he had shown Goddess Kali smoking cigarette in his documentary ‘Kali’. Many cases were registered against Leena regarding this dispute. Now Leena has demanded the Supreme Court to club all these FIRs together and quash them.

Today i.e. on Friday, the matter was placed before the bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. Now the Supreme Court has fixed the matter for hearing on January 20. Many cases have been registered against Leena in this case in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Uttarakhand. In the petition, Leena has sought directions from the court to quash all these FIRs.

Leena, in her plea, has said that her endeavor as a creative filmmaker was not to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments, but to present the image of a fundamentally inclusive goddess. He said that his documentary film reflects the broad views of Devi. Leena has challenged the ongoing proceedings against her in the district courts of Hazratganj in Lucknow, Ratlam, Bhopal and Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Haridwar in Uttarakhand and Delhi.

Filmmaker Leena Manimekalai says she has faced “death” threats and “beheading” phone calls after tweeting the poster of her film. He said that the multiple FIRs registered against him are harassment and violation of his fundamental rights to freedom of speech as well as expression.
